Samantha Maria Converse Hanna

Samantha M. Converse, dau. of Porter Converse, of Unionville, Ashtabula Co., Ohio, was born Apr. 3, 1813 in Ohio. She married with LEONARD HANNA, son of Benjamin Hanna and Rachel Dixon. He was born Mar. 4, 1806 in Columbiana Co., Ohio. He practiced medicine until 1850, when he then became a merchant. He moved to Cleveland in 1851. He marrried Samantha Converse and had 8 children. He died Dec. 15, 1862 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio; she died Apr. 16, 1897; both buried at Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio.

Children were: H. Gertrude (1836-1891, m. Henry Hubbell), Marcus Alonzo (1837-1904,US Senator from Ohio), Howard Melville (1840-1921), Salome (m 1st George Chapin and 2nd J. Wyman Jones), Seville (1846-1927, m. Col. James Pickands), Leonard C. (1850-1919), and Lilian C. (1852-1948).

"MARK HANNA'S MOTHER DEAD: Cleveland, Ohio, Apr. 16, 1897: A telegram was received this morning by the Leader from Asheville, N.C. stating that Mrs. S.W. Hanna, the mother of Senator Hanna, had died at Asheville, N.C., from pneumonia. Mrs. Hanna had been sick for about a week and was 84 years old. Her remains will be brought to Cleveland for interment." The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Brooklyn, Kings, New York, Friday, April 16, 1897, pg. 5, col 3.

Cleveland, O., April 16--A telegram was received this morning by the Leader from Asheville, N. C., stating that Mrs. S. M. Hanna, the mother of Senator Hanna, had died at Asheville, N. C., from pneumonia. Mrs. Hanna had been sick about a week and was 84 years old. Her remains will be brought to Cleveland for interment."
